Subject: [apildip] Minutes of June 24, 2005 ldip conference call Sent: 7/4/2005 4:42 PM Importance: Normal The June 24, 2005 ldip conference call was held 1:00 PM Eastern time. Attending were: Ul Balis Thomas Barr Bruce Beckwith Jeffrey A. Beckstead Jules Berman Alton Floyd Bruce Friedman Fernando U. Garcia Eric Goodall Alan Kalvin Robert Leif Andy Lowe Tony Pan Mathew Hreljac (for John Stinson) Michael Szymanski Darren Treanor Kemp Watson Ron Xiao Jack Zeineh Ilya Goldberg (guest speaker) The call was largely devoted to Ul Balis' discussion of OME (open microscopy environment) and the possibility of uniting the OME and the LDIP efforts. Basically, there were two pathways discussed for OME integration with LDIP. The first would involve developing a mechanism whereby LDIP enhancements to OME would be incorporated into OME, so that the final effort is a shared specification with OME and LDIP contributions. This would require working closely with the OME members and developing a plan for sharing credit for the resulting specification. The second would involve using the existing OME .xsd and simply adding an LDIP layer to suit our needs. This would involve very little cooperation between the OME group and the LDIP group but would probably require some sort of memorandum between the two groups indicating our intentions and their acceptance of the plan and resolving any issues of intellectual property or credit that might result. Alternately, we could just start from scratch and do it all our own way, allowing imagers to choose OME, LDIP or some other other specification for their image files. No decision was made. The discussion will resume at the next LDIP call on July 29, at 1:00 PM Eastern. Everyone was urged to visit the OME (Open Microscopy Environment) website: http://www.openmicroscopy.org/ Ilya Goldberg indicated that all members of LDIP could join the OME listserver (instructions for joining are available at their site). - Jules
