An LDIP conference call was held Sept 30, 2005, 1:00 PM Eastern time Attendees: Ann Cecil Alton Floyd Fernando Garcia Robert Leif Tony Pan Ul Balis Tom Barr Jules Berman Darren Treanor Kemp Watson Ilya Goldberg Bruce Beckwith Jack Zeineh Alan Kalvin Ron Xiao Eric Goodall If I've omitted anyone, please let me know. The meeting started with a recap of the image workshop at APIII (Ul Balis). Ul reported that there was much enthusiasm for the ldip specification. Bob Leif added that ISAC was also interested in the specification. Bruce Beckwith said that there was some discussion of LDIP at the most recent DICOM meeting and, based on remarks, there is a need to make the DICOM people understand that LDIP is intended to be a complementary (not competitive) effort. We discussed the RDF draft/conversion of OME and the proposal that the LDIP vocabulary be built as an RDF schema. The LDIP.XML RDF schema draft was emailed to the group prior to the conference call, and LDIP members are urged to review the file and the covering email message. Problems discussed were: 1. Size and complexity of the RDF schema due to many disparate data elements 2. Importance of having an xsd 3. Limitations of RDF as a data specification General conclusions: 1. RDF would be a good start for an LDIP namespace that will hold the relationships between data elements 2. Having elements described in RDF would facilitate the eventual creation of an ldip xsd At the end of the conference call Ilya Goldberg brought up the issus of how to encapsulate the binary image data (as an external file with pointer, OR as an internal file in the image document, OR to simply put all of the LDIP metadata into the header of a standard image file, such as TIFF). This discussion was stopped at 2:05 because we're trying to keep conference calls to an hour to accommodate our schedules. However, we will carryover this discussion to the listserver and will pick it up at the next conference call. The next conference call my need to be rescheduled because of a conflict in schedules for myself and Ul Balis. - Jules Berman September 30, 2005
